Driver’s Licence Suspended?

If you have been disqualified from driving or had your driver’s licence suspended, you may be able to get a Limited Licence (work licence).

Timing is crucial if you need your licence to drive for work. If you have been disqualified by a court, you have to wait 28 days before you can make an application, but if you’ve been suspended for demerit points, you can apply as soon as you are suspended. A court may grant you a limited licence if not being able to drive will cause extreme hardship to you, or undue hardship to another person.

A Limited Licence (work licence) limits you to:

• drive a particular vehicle or vehicles
• drive only on specified days of the week and times
• drive only in specified areas
• is only for alleviating the extreme or undue hardship.

 

You can’t get a limited licence if you:

• are indefinitely disqualified
• want to drive a vehicle being used in a transport service (other than a rental service)
• are disqualified for Driving while disqualified or suspended
• have been disqualified in the past five years
• are subject to an alcohol interlock licence or a driver licence stop order
• if more than 20 of the demerit points were accumulated while driving in a passenger service
